Question: What is a National PTA School of Excellence?
Answer: A school where families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success. A school where the PTA is a key collaborative partner for continuous school improvement.
Question: Why strive for Excellence? Why Meadow? Why Now?
Answer: Research shows that family engagement supports student success. Meadow is the largest Baldwin elementary school, a leader in inclusive education. We need to showcase our strengths. In 2009, Baldwin was listed as one of Money magazines top places to live in the US. We deserve to be there year after year. Strong community schools is a big factor when choosing where to live.
Question: How can families engage with the schools to collaborate towards student success?
Answer: National PTA has created 6 standards around which communities can focus their success
1. Welcoming All Families Into the School Community-families who feel welcome feel valued and connected to their school
2. Communicating Effectively-families and schools should engage in regular, 2-way communication
3. Supporting Student Success-collaboration between families and school to support student learning and healthy development
4. Speaking Up for Every Child-families are empowered to advocate for the children in their school, to ensure fair treatment and access to programs which promote and support success
5. Sharing Power-families and schools are equal partners in policy, programming and practice decisions
6. Collaborating with Community-families and schools collaborate to connect students with the greater community
