Announcement!!! We have a Meadow student selected as a NYS PTA Reflections winner 2022-2023! Congratulations to Sydney Jones who received the Award of Merit in Photography.

This year, 563 entries were judged statewide, resulting in 144 state level winners. 114 students received an Award of Merit, and 30 students earned Award of Excellence. Award of Excellence winners have been moved to the National level of judging. https://nyspta.org/reflections-winners-2023/

Sydney Jones(2nd Grade/Almona) - Photography- Express Yourself: Girl Power
Artist's Statement *
In 10 to 100 words, describe your work and how it relates to the theme
I love to express girl power and unite together using my expression. My girl scout troop always show our voices by helping others. In this picture, we are are showing our voice to help the less fortunate by collecting items for a food drive. I am very proud of how we show our voice.

Sothanee Sainsurin (1st Grade/Stanley) - Photography- I AM NOT A KILLER
Artist's Statement *
In 10 to 100 words, describe your work and how it relates to the theme
I want to show my voice to teach everyone about Orcas. Orcas are known as killer whales, but they are dolphins. Orcas are not killers of humans. They are very loving. My favorite part of visiting Sea World was when I got to see the Orcas. There was a trainer who told us so many things about Orcas. I took many pictures, and this is my favorite because it's shows how beautiful they can flip. Not everyone can visit Sea World because it is far away. I want to share what I learned during my trip and help Orcas.

I created a poster to show my voice and encourage people to vote. Voting is important because your choice matters and many people didn't always have the right to vote. Your vote can create change because every vote counts!

(refer to Judges Rubric to understand how heavily "interpretation of theme is weighed)

Judges strongly consider the interpretation of the Reflections theme during the evaluation process. It is suggested that students give their submissions a title that stands out and describes how the piece relates to the student’s personal interpretation of the theme. The following guiding questions can be useful when developing a title and artist statement: 

• How does your work relate to the theme?
• What is your personal connection to the theme?
• What did you use to create your work (e.g., supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
• What/who was your inspiration?

NOTE: Students can submit more than one entry, as long as they are in different categories.

2. Start creating "art" to reflect theme: Show Your Voice

4.  ALL participants will receive a ribbon. A winner from each category will receive a medal. Stay tuned for dates for Gallery Walk and Award Ceremony!
